COLORADO SPRINGS
FIRE STATION NO. 8
2008 Gold Hard Hat Award
This project was a 12,595 sq-ft new building with three apparatus bays, individual sleeping quarters, a large kitchen, dayroom, dispatch center, weight room, and a community room. This is one of the busiest fire stations in the State of Colorado. The all brick exterior of the station utilizes contrasting colors of brick influenced from a historical context of older fire stations. The scope of masonry work consisted of 85 workings days, 140,000 units including eight-inch blocks, twelve-inch blocks & bricks. Brick corbelling and projecting brick pilasters give character and strengthen the exterior detailing around the entire facility. Approximately 70 precast traditional fire station emblem maltese stones enhance window and sawtooth patterned archways on four separate building elevations including the tower. Despite a very aggressive 6-month schedule, the fire station was completed on time and within budget.
