ELBERT COUNTY JUSTICE CENTER

This design-build project consisted of a 12,000 SF single story Justice Center between two occupied buildings. Building construction is structural steel frame, with metal studs and a combination of colored CMU veneer and Hardi Board panels. The building features a heavy timber framed open canopy at the front entrance to catch the old west boardwalk feel of the Town of Kiowa. The addition consisted of 2 courtrooms, judges chambers, jury selection and deliberation areas and houses the District Attorney and support Staff Offices. The major construction challenge to this project included the construction of a new building between the existing Sheriffs office and the jail facility and 9-1-1 Call Center. To accomplish this, exact layout and steel measurements were required to fit and maintain an expansion joint making the dimensions critical between the two buildings. Additionally, site-specific training was implemented in dealing with the steel erection, thus resulting in zero recordable accidents.
