NORTH HIGH SCHOOL
Denver, Colorado

This project focused on the exterior renovation and rehabilitation of the Denver's historic North High School.  The once-magnificent brick, terra cotta and sandstone veneer was badly deteriorated and most of the wood windows and doors had either been replaced with non-sympathetic, poor quality products or had been boarded up for security and maintenance reasons.  Originally specified and bid with aluminum clad, wood windows, White Construction Group determined that stringent Denver Public Schools wind-load standards, combined with the need to meet Denver Landmark's guidelines for window replacement could only be met with custom-fabricated metal windows.  Custom Window of Denver built new windows replicating widths, depths and profiles of the original wood windows.  Other restoration activities included extant windows and doors, metal cornice, masonry and terra cotta restoration, exterior paint, and roof repairs.  In addition the non-historic, 1983 cafeteria was remodeled and reconfigured to better suit student use.
